The agency created and maintained these files as part of the U. S. Global Change Research Program for global environmental research. This series contains data from a prototype land cover characteristics data base for the conterminous United States (lower 48 states). The data are derived from the 1990 Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) time-series data, with post-classification refinement based on other digital earth science data sets, including topography, climate, soils, and ecoregions. The data consist of the source data, the initial and final interpretation of land cover regions, descriptive and quantitative attributes for each of the land cover regions, and derived thematic data sets. The Center for Advanced Land Management Information Technologies of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln was a major collaborator in this effort.
This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC). See the ARC catalog entry for this series for more information on this data and how to order it.
